Man Detained, Studio City Residents Allowed Back Home After Hourslong Evacuation

A man was arrested Wednesday and Studio City residents were allowed to return home after an hourslong evacuation prompted by a suspected suicide attempt and threatening messages connected to a possible home foreclosure, police said.

Officers smelled gas around 3:30 a.m. when responding to reports of an attempted suicide at a home in the 12500 block of Landale Street (map), Los Angeles Police Department’s Liliana Preciado said.

Several homes were evacuated due to a possible gas leak, officials initially said.

On-scene officials later said a generator next to the home was emitting carbon monoxide through a hose and into the home.

A threatening message on social media may have prompted the police presence, LAPD Captain Stephen Carmona said.
